Ingredients: Feeds a Family of 4 + plus

16 oz. (1-pound) Packaged Ground Beef  (Add Taco Seasoning and Chopped Onion)

12 oz. Cheddar Cheese, shredded

12 oz. Sour Cream

14 oz. Herdez Green Verde or  Pace Picante Red Salsa

16 oz. Package of Tortilla Chips

1 – Package of Garden Salad

1 Bushel of fresh Cilantro (Herb), chopped

3 stalks of Green Onion, chopped

2 Medium Tomatoes, Diced

Optional Items: Avocado, Mushrooms

Equipment: Fry Pan for Hamburger, Stove and Large Mixing Bowl


Cooking Steps:

The best way to get started is to get your kids involved in the process. I suggest the following; Dad is in charge of the Taco Meat, the other two kids will divide the work between the Salad prep and the shredding of the cheese. As you can see in this video, this Taco Salad Recipe is not only easy to make, it’s fun for the entire family!

Take your regular Taco Meat seasoning and small chop about ½ cup of onion and add to the mix of the meat and seasoning on a fry pan.  Cook the meat  until it is thoroughly cooked, (15 – 18 minutes, Med-High Heat). You can add additional seasoning depending on your children’s heat index.

As I prepare the meat, I have one of my daughters separate, wash, and set up the salad base with a variety of veggies. Using the Pre-Packaged Garden Salad makes this step easy. The rest of the salad set up is chopping the green onion, cilantro, and tomatoes into the mix, (Optional Mushrooms and Avocado).  While the Salad is being prepared, I have my other daughter take the 12 oz. Cheddar Cheese and grade it.

Remember: It is important to keep all three tasks separate because you combine the Taco Meat, the Salad, the Cheese and Salsa together only when you are ready to serve. Otherwise the entire Salad will become soggy and nobody likes soggy Tortilla Chips in a Taco Salad.

Sir Mix A Lot… of Salad

When the meat is done and the other two girls are finished with their task, it is now time to combine all three ingredients together and top off the mixture with Red or Green Salsa, sour cream and the Tortilla Strips. Take a Large mixing bowl and let the mixing begin. Don’t be surprised if your kids ask for this Taco Recipe to be part of your weekly meals. It’s one of my family’s favorite Salad Recipes.
