Hooray for Cheese!

There is something about a grilled cheese sandwich that reminds me of my youth. I can remember it being a wintertime treat and there was always a cup of chicken noodle soup that accompanied the grilled cheese sandwich.  Recently, my family has been asking for melt and all four of my kids had a different request on what they wanted on their sandwich. So with cameras rolling, I decided to create another CookLikeADad  Video Recipe for anyone out there that wants to have some fun in the kitchen the next time a grilled cheese sandwich is on your menu.

Cooking Steps: Stage One Prep

Make sure you have everyone’s order down before you get started. It is best to slice the cheeses first, then go through each order with the ingredients requested. As you can see in this video, I have prepared each of my kids plates with their request so I don’t forget their special order.

The only special work I needed to do was getting the Jalapeno Chili sliced and grilled for my son’s request. One of my CookLikeADad cooking tips is when cooking any type of chili, like Jalapeno’s, it is important to keep your hands clean and washed before and after slicing and grilling. It is very easy to get the oils from the chili onto your hands and easy to rub your face or eyes by accident.

Next Step: Organizing the Orders

After preparing each cheese, vegetable and fruit request; it’s time to get the bread buttered and toasted. I am using a combination of both a dry skillet to brown my bread; and then I place the ingredients on the browned bread and back into a toaster oven, open-faced.

As you watch the video, there is not a lot to this recipe, as long as you have the cheese and ingredients ready. I did want to mention my girlfriend’s, “special” request of Basil, Tomato and Mozzarella. It has become a popular grilled cheese sandwich in my household. I added Italian Seasoning and crushed red pepper flakes to give this grilled cheese sandwich an extra “Pop” of heat. Give it a try!
