The Story Behind the Recipe

Recently, as a Dad Cooking Blogger, I had the privilege to visit the sweetest place on earth – Hershey, Pennsylvania, home of The Hershey Company headquarters and product development. Part of the trip was to learn more about the process of making Hershey products as well as to learn more about the company’s recent initiatives to be a more transparent company. They have begun to share stories about their ingredients such as the almonds included in their products, HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate with Almonds bars, HERSHEY’S KISSES Milk Chocolates with Almonds and even my favorite, ALMOND JOY candy bars. I was destined to come back to California and find a way to make a chocolaty dessert using HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate with Almonds bars!

Making the Dessert Bars

1.) Start by heating your oven to 350 Degrees F* and have your child grease a 13x9x2 inch baking pan. They will like the messy process!

2.) Then combined crumbs, melted butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl, and firmly press the mixture on the bottom of the greased pan.

3.) Stir together the condensed milk and MOUNDS Coconut Flakes together and carefully drop mixture by spoonfuls over the crust, spreading evenly.

4.) Bake 20-25 minutes until the coconut edges just begin to brown. Then cool.

5.) Place the HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate with Almonds bars and whipping cream in a microwave-safe bowl and heat at medium (50%) heat for 1 minute. Stir and continue on medium heat for 15-second increments as needed, stirring each time until the bars are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Cool until slightly thick and spread over cooled bars.

6.) Sprinkle top with HERSHEY’S Premiere White Chips. Cover and refrigerate for several hours. Cut into bars and refrigerate leftovers (there usually are none at my house).
